Why Millenials Have Less Sex Than Previous Generations.

It would be easy to assume that of all generations, millennials are having the most sex. After all, we’re living in a period of great sexual liberation, with dating apps making it easier for them to engage in casual sexual encounters or hookups.
Whatsmore, based on their age, millennials are in their sexual and physical prime. Despite this, various studies have found that millennials are having less sex than ever before, with a recent study in the Atlantic referring to this phenomenon as the “sex recession.”
Even married millennials report that they’re not having sex with their partner as often as they envisioned, with many finding that they are in “sexless” relationships.
For example, a Kinsey Institute & LoveHoney study found that millennials are most likely to “report problems with sexual desire.”
Furthermore, one study found that “from 2008 to 2018, the share of Americans ages 18 to 29 who reported having no sex doubled.” This referred to both casual encounters, hookups and those in committed-long term relationships.
Why are millennials having less sex?
There are many reasons why millennials may be unknowingly fueling a ‘sex drought.’ For example, one of the biggest desire-killers (throughout all generations) is stress and burnout.
When we experience high levels of stress, our body’s production of the stress hormone cortisol increases significantly. Studies have found this can “suppress our sex hormones, creating a lower libido.”
There are many reasons why the millennial age group are hit particularly hard by stress. For example, they’re facing financial and economic barriers that previous generations simply did not – they’re often “behind” on significant milestones like buying houses or tackling student debt. They’re also dealing with the cost of living crisis.
Financial insecurities also lead to stress within the workplace, especially when it comes to obtaining a healthy work-life balance. Millennials, desperate to step out of debt or achieve financial security, are more likely to work longer hours than other generations. In fact, one study found that millennials are working longer and are ” more likely to forfeit unused vacation days than other groups.”
Working more means more time away from home, and higher levels of exhaustion, which in turn, can harm relationships and put barriers in the way of intimacy and sex.
All of these stressors can lead to a range of issues relating to sexual performance, too – such as erectile dysfunction. For example, “stress and anxiety are estimated to cause around 10 % to 20% of all erectile dysfunction cases.”
While it may seem daunting to talk about, there are many ways to treat ED so that it no longer stands in the way of maintaining an active sex life with your partner. For example, at the Family Chemist, we offer a range of affordable ED treatments, such as cheap tadalafil. This way, you don’t have to break the bank to get back into the game. You can also rest easy knowing that your healthcare is in good hands.
